Break a Leg! - and I totally agree with you about the two quotes being exactly the same.

Yes, very close to the same -- with the first slipping more easily to the analogous questions, "What am I 'for'?" "What mission is being 'safe' keeping me from?" In defense of safety, however, it doesn't hurt to get a good map, check the weather report and wear your life jacket.

"A ship in harbor is safe - but that is not what ships are for." ~John A. Shedd, Salt from My Attic (Thanks to a Google search.)

I am amazed at the amount of preparation you go through for an audition. Regardless of whether you get this one, they would be out of luck if they did not hire you. Go get em!

Thanks to Jane for source of quote. I was going to write that I've heard it said before --years ago -- so knew it wasn't original to West Wing. Also, it kind of reminded me of an old adage that goes "You can't expect your ship to come in if you never send it out." Re: travel coat: I just ordered a couple of "non-iron" travel shirts from TravelSmith at exorbitant prices and they arrived in mail WRINKLED. I returned them but am out the shipping and handling (over $10.) plus having to go to P.O. to mail back. Yesterday I found much nicer no-iron shirts at T.J.Maxx for one-fourth the price.

Except when the ships get destroyed in the harbor and the ones at open sea say "Boy, I'm glad I was out here where it's safe."
