I sort of understand the "rules is rules" attitude, but it's too bad he couldn't have eased up when you went to talk to him in his office. I can't imagine a job where it would be a problem to miss work if you've given three days notice, but maybe he had problems covering on a Saturday. Wayne's work, for all their wonderful benefits, has similar policy. He earns 1/2 a vacation day each pay period, but has to give 24 hours notice before he uses one or it's an "occurance". (Like I know if my kid's going to spike a fever 24 hours in advance!) Don't let it get you down. It would take a lot more slack than you're comfortable with for them to get rid of you. (Unless you choose not to, I'm sure you'll outlast this manager!)
