True confessions: I don't balance my check book either though I THINK I know how... something about subtracting all checks and debits as I go, and then, when I get the bank statement, checking items off and figuring out why it doesn't AGREE with the balance I think I have. I don't worry about it as long as they think I have MORE than I think I have. If it's the opposite, I take their word for it. They're much better at math.
You ARE in a scary money place, James  but it's good that you're at least trying to see it in a positive light, as an opportunity, or The Universe kicking you into action. I don't know what to tell you except: eat nothing but rice and peanut butter. ;-{

I balance my checkbook about every 3 months and I have Quicken, so there is no excuse except that I find it a profoundly unsatisfying experience. I don't really want to know what I (don't) have. And, give yourself some credit for your manifesting power re: the T-mobile gig. You know more than you think you do (I tell myself that a lot as I study for the upcoming CA licensing exam).
