"Lawrence of Arabia" and "The Third Man" weren't readily available for many years. I remember the whole film preservation wave starting with L of A. They used as an example of film restoration and how letterbox is so much better than pan and scan, etc. I saw "2001..." a few years back and I have to say, it just doesn't hold up for me. I'm sure at the time it was wonderful and inovative, but now it's so cliched it's boring. I find it funny that there are not any more recent films on this list (no "Forest Gump" or, my personal favorite of overlooked films, "Nobody's Fool"). It makes me kind of sad. Also, it seems to me they think the longer a movie is, the better it is and I think there's something to be said for tight storytelling.
