I do find this interesting. I know someone who swears up and down that her childhood was idylic and her parents are perfect. All it's done for her is make her act entitled and give her the idea that the rest of the world is less than she is. Most of her life is spent on what seems like finding things to piss her off. Wayne was raised by Ozzie and Harriet, and I don't think it's done anything but making him terrified of disappointing his parents ten years after they've died. I can only remember spending about half the Father's Days of my youth with my dad. He was in and out of my life so often. It's still not the relationship I'd like, but like you say, "what happened happened, and here's where I've ended up". And if you'd never left West VA, you never would have met me, and we would both be worse off for it. :)

Very good entry. With age comes wisdom and all that... You ARE the protagonist, in any case, and I'd say more hero than villain!
